VOICES

Urgently drawn outside into the night by some bellowing beast with flashing lights and creaking joints, I watch in relief to see that my neighbor's house is NOT being demolished. It's only an old, extremely noisy piece of equipment rumbling through the neighborhood. As it slowly, agonizingly lumbers away the voice of the beast diminishes until silence silkily rolls in.

High in the universe a streak of heavenly fire races across the sky and is extinguished. Another voice insinuates it's presence as the rustling of approaching change. The air freshens, the sound solidifies into the quaking of the poplar tree, shortly followed by the lighter, less crisp voice of the plum tree. I sit on the porch entranced, straining to hear the chorus as the pine tree whispers it's lullaby. As I gather myself to retreat to my cottage, the maple claps it's applause.

On the anniversary of Mom's birthday, my sister and I sat contemplating in my living room, enjoying the peace and quiet. The toll of a single bell sounded, followed by more bells and joined by guitars. The voice was AC/DC as they sand "Hells Bells". We looked at each other in amazement with the voice of our Mother saying "Well, Hells Bells!", as she was apt to say in exasperation, sounding clearly in our minds.

Not long ago I heard Kloyd say "Hey Mom" . Although alone in my house, it felt like he was really there. It wasn't a feeling of bad premonitions. It actually seemed that he had traveled from the future to meet me in his past somehow. I called him later on to return the greeting, but it was news to him as it hasn't happened for him yet. Give it time...

THREE WEEKS

Saturday, April 18, 2009 to May 8, 2009 were three weeks of sorrow and joy for our family. There is solace in the love and support shared by everyone. I feel humbled and grateful for such a strong and beautiful family. I love all of you with all my heart.

Saturday, April 18, 2009: Amelia journeyed to Blanding with Hyrum, Noah and Olivia for a friend's reception. They stay for a week so she can attend the temple with Oleyna.

Tuesday, April 21, 2009: Brad, Jenn and Madisen come to Blanding to gather items from their shed. They picked up Dominik to go shooting before heading back home to Norwood.

Saturday, April 25, 2009: Grandma Dorothy died after having a heart attack. Amelia, Hyrum and Olivia stopped in to visit on their way home from Blanding earlier that same day.

Tuesday, April 28, 2009: "Cousin brothers" after Grandma's funeral and graveside services.

Little Timothy fell out of the truck onto his head at the cemetery, resulting in stitches and a visit to the hospital for a CAT scan. He is okay and healing quickly.

Friday, May 1, 2009: Fatima returns from Brazil where she had been spending time with her father, giving him comfort during his illness.

Tuesday, May 5, 2009: Kate Jennifer Perkins arrives. Perfect, beautiful baby girl with a very attentive, proud family watching over her.

Friday, May 8, 2009: Beloved father of Fatima, Pedro died in Brazil. Our love and prayers are with Fatima and her family.

It was a dark and snowy night

So much snow! It's been a while since there has been so much snow. Everybody spent hours digging out and then digging out some more. The snow and icicles were most awesomely BEAUTIFUL! It brings memories of how much Mojo loved to play in the snow.

This was my first year without a live tree. I resigned myself to the fact that it's easier this way. However, in the process of decorating the tree, i became rather fond of it. No messy needles, branches that can change position and no sticky pine gum.
